Hawaa Hawaai is a 2019 Indian Hindi dramatic film directed by Pradeep Sarkar and written by Ritesh Shah, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Juhi Chawla in lead roles. The film is an adaptation of the critically acclaimed 2017 Marathi language film Hawa Mahal (The Palace of Winds) which starred Vikram Gokhale and Sonali Kulkarni. It depicts the story of a royal couple from 18th-century India who are separated when their kingdom falls to the British East India Company. Hawa Mahal, meaning "Palace of Winds," was built in 1799 as a palace for Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II in Jaipur city. It was built with 92 rooms, and was known as the most beautiful palace in India. However, the British East India Company occupied Jaipur and Rajputana kingdoms during the 18th century and took over Sawai Ram Singh II as their political puppet. The story begins in 1820 when Sawai Ram Singh's only son (and heir) Himmat Singh (Amitabh Bachchan) goes missing. The king is upset, and demands that his brother Gopal Singh (Manoj Joshi) must find him. Meanwhile, a girl named Roshni (Juhi Chawla) who lives in the palace of Maharaja Man Singh (Satish Shah) is told about her destiny to save the kingdom. Hawaa Hawaai was shot in Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai. The film was officially released on 7 January 2019 on the occasion of Republic Day.
The trailer for Hawaa Hawaai was released on 12 September 2018, on Amitabh Bachchan's birthday. Principal photography for Hawaa Hawaai began on 2 November 2018 and finished on 5 December 2018. The production unit had to adjust and modify several of the set and costume designs, particularly of the large-scale palace sets, to conform to the accurate history of Jaipur's history of architecture, due to its lengthy filming schedule.
The music is composed by Amit Trivedi while the lyrics are penned by Kausar Munir, Aslam Sen and Sukhwinder Singh. Amitabh Bachchan shares his 66 years of experience with his fans in a "special" video which was released on 10 June 2019 before he started shooting for this film.
